Blue Cross Tonik Frequently Asked Questions


What kind of health plan is TONIK?
Tonik is a major medical Blue Cross PPO plan. PPO stands for "Preferred Provider Organization". You can go to any doctor or hospital you want but you will pay less if you go to one that participates in the Blue Cross PPO network. Don't worry- the network is huge and you won't have a problem finding a doc or hospital!

Do I have to be a certain age to apply for a TONIK plan?
The Tonik health plans were originally created for the "young invincible" population (19-29 yrs old) however any resident under the age of 65 can apply for TONIK.

What is covered on the TONIK plans?
Doctor visits, preventive care, hospitalization, emergency services, generic prescription drugs, dental and vision to name a few! For more specific details, check out the plan details page.

How long will it take me to complete a TONIK application?
Most applicants seem to be able to complete the TONIK application within 10 minutes.

What will I pay per month for Tonik?
It will depend on your age, zip code and health. To get a ballpark quote, click on the above "get a quote" tab.

What are my payment options?
The first month's premium by credit card or checking account deduction is needed on the application. After that, you can continue to have your card charged, your account deducted OR get an old fashioned bill in the mail. You decide.

How long will it take me to be approved for TONIK?
Most of our TONIK applicants, without a previous health condition, have been approved in just one day. However, if Blue Cross of California requests additional information on the form or a complete review of your medical history, it will take a little longer.

If I purchase through International ProInsurance or another Blue Cross of California Authorized agency, will I have to pay more for my TONIK plan?
No Way Jose! The rates are standardized so no matter how or where you sign up, you will get the same rate.
Blue Cross of California Authorized brokers and agents receive commissions straight from Blue Cross, and that means they don't pass on added, additional or extra charges to health care consumers like you.


Is there any "fine print" I should be aware of?
The Tonik plans do not offer maternity coverage or brand name prescription drug coverage so TONIK won't be right for individuals who need these two benefits. If either of these two benefits are important to you to have, please call us at 800-322-0310 and we can give you some more plan options.

Is there a contract or a certain amount of time I have to stay a Tonik member once I am approved?
No! Tonik has no membership contract. It is just month to month and you can cancel anytime.
